Why A Friendly Card Game May No Longer Be As Safe As You Think

Wal-Mart has recalled as of January 2, 2014, about 73,400 units of a five piece set card table and chairs. The set has been recalled de to a fall risk posed by the chairs unexpectedly collapsing while in use as well as finger injuries, including amputation.

The recall involves the Mainstays card table sets with a black padded metal folding table and four black padded metal folding chairs. The set can be identified by “Made by: Dongguan Shin Din Metal & Plastic Products Co.”, the marking by the company that made the seat cushions, printed on a white label on the bottom of the chairs.

The sets were available nationwide in Wal-Mart stores for purchase and online from May 2103 until November.

Thus far Wal-Mart has received reports of 10 injuries caused by the collapsing chairs. Of those injuries reported consumers have suffered full finger amputations, fingertip amputations and a report of an injured/sore back.

For those who have purchased the defective set the set can be returned to Wal-Mart for a full refund of the purchase and they are urged to discontinue any and all use of the table and chairs.
