The recalls that were announced over the past week range from consumer goods such as fans to foods and pharmaceuticals. It is important to remain aware and cautious about recalls announced for any and all products we used in day-to-day life. Fanimation Recalls Brewmaster Ceiling Fans (24 Feb., 2015) Fanimation has recalled Brewmaster ceiling fans after discovering that the hub holding the blades can separate when operating in reverse causing a risk that bystanders  below be struck by falling components. Although no injuries associated to the recall have been reported, there have been two reports of the ceiling fan hub falling. Consumers are encouraged to discontinue use of the subject fans immediately and contact the company to receive a retention collar for the fan. The recalled ceiling fans can be identified by the following model numbers: FP10AB, FP10AC, FP10BL, FP10PW, FP20AB, FP20AC, FP20BL and FP20PW.

Oliver Fiberglass Products and NuWhirl Systems Recall Step Safe Walk-In Tubes (24 Feb., 2015) Oliver Fiberglass Products and NuWhirl Systems recall Step Safe Walk-In Tubes due to burn hazard. It was discovered that the tub’s heated seat can get stuck in the “on” position and a towel or other item covering the seat when the tub is empty can cause the seat to overheat and potentially burn consumers.  Thus far there have been eleven reports of the tub’s heated seat getting stuck in the “on” position, but no injuries have been reported. The tubs subject to this recall bear the following model numbers: LP2848, LP2851, LP2853, LP3153 or LP3255. The tubs can also be identified by the following serial numbers:  124423 through 131569 with the prefix HS, HSHY, HSHS, HSMB or MBHS. Consumers are encouraged to contact the company for new instructions and warning stickers to place on the recalled tubs.

Electrolux Recalls Kenmore Electric Ranges (24 Feb., 2015) Electrolux has recalled Kenmore electric ranges due to potential electrical shock hazards posed by the fact that the heating element can fail to properly adhere to the cooktop.  No injuries have been reported associated to this recall but consumers are encouraged to stop use immediately, unplug electrical ranges and contact Sears to schedule a free inspection and potential repair. The freestanding electrical ranges can be identified by the model number 790.90152 with serial numbers NF408 through NF424 and model number 790.90153 with serial numbers NF408 through NF427.

Cosco Recalls Convertible Hand Trucks (25 Feb., 2015) Cosco recalls hand truck after it was discovered that the wheel hub can separate or break and eject pieces during inflation, increasing risk of injury to consumers as well as bystanders. Thus far there have been four reports of injuries including bruises and lacerations related to the recalled product and consumers are encouraged to stop using the hand trucks and contact Cosco for a free repair kit.  The recalled product can be identified by the model numbers 12-301 ABL and 12-301 ABL1.

Food and Drug Administration- Recalls/Safety Alerts

Purina Animal Nutrition LLC Recalls DuMOR Sheep Formula (23 Feb., 2015) Purina voluntarily recalled DuMOR Sheep formula due to possible higher-than-acceptable levels of copper, which could potentially cause health issues and morality. There has been one report of sheep morality associated with the recalled lot. The single lot subject to recall can be identified by the formula number 55EA, item number 0047317, and lot number 4NOV28LKC1. Consumers should immediately stop feeding the product.

Sagent Pharmaceuticals Recalls Atracurium Besylate Injections (23 Feb., 2015) Sagent recalled two lots of Atracurium Bestylate Injections due to potential impacting product sterility. The company has not received any adverse results from patients using the recalled product but non-the-less has issued to voluntary recall to avoid potential infections resulting from the defect. The lots subject to recall are as follows: VATA012, VATA015 (50mg/5mL) and VATB012, VATB013, VATB014, VATB017 (100mg/10mL).

Fairway “Like No Other Market” Recalls Raw Hazelnuts (24 Feb., 2015) Fairway “Like No Other Market” recalled Raw Hazelnuts due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The Hazelnuts subject to this recall were distributed in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut as well as home delivery via Google and Instacart. The recalled product can be identified by the item code 228119 XXXXXX and a “SELL BY” date of May 15, 2015 or prior.

Heritage Pharmaceuticals Recalls Colistimethate and Rifampin for Injection (24 Feb., 2015) Heritage Pharmaceuticals voluntarily recalls Colistimethate for Injection due to lack of sterility assurance. The product subject to this recall was distributed to hospitals, wholesalers and distributors nationwide from December 2012 through January 2015 under the name Colistimethate and from October 2014 through January 2014 under the name Rifampin. Consumers have been instructed to examine inventory and quarantine, immediately discontinue sales of the recalled products and take steps to return the subject products. Talenti Gelato & Sorbetto Recalls Sea Salt Caramel Gelato (27 Feb., 2015) Talenti Gelato & Sorbetto recalls certain jars of Sea Salt Caramel Gelato due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, more specifically peanuts.  The recalled product was distributed in one pint clear plastic jars marked with the UPC number 8685200024 and the best buy date of 05/19/2016. FSIS Recalls

Sunset Farm Foods Recalls Sausage Products (26 Feb., 2015) Sunset Farm Foods recalls Sausage Products due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen, more specifically hydrolyzed soy protein. Among the sausage items recalled are 11 lb. vacuum-packed cases of “Southern Chef Brand Smoked Link Sausage” and “Georgia Maid Smoke Link Sausage”. The sausage items can further be identified by the establishment number “EST. 9185” bearing a “SELL BY” date between January 2015 and May 2015.  The recalled items were shipped to consumers in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, and New York.
