Most of this week’s recalls involve food related recalls due to undeclared allergens and contamination. It is important to remain aware of recalls of products you and your family consume. Marin Mountain Bikes Recalls Children’s Bicycles (10 Feb., 2015) Marin Mountain Bikes recalls Children’s Bicycles due to discovery that the subject bicycles’ handlebars can loosen or separate during use. The defect can cause the rider to lose control and increase the risk of crashing. The bicycles can be identified by “Marin” being printed on the seat and down tube. Additionally there will be “Tiny Trail” or “MBX 50” printed on the chain guard. No injuries have been reported associated to the bicycle recall, but consumers are urged to discontinue use of the recalled bicycles.
System Sensor Recalls Combination Monoxide and Smoke Detectors (11 Feb., 2015) System Sensor recalls Combination Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors due to the discovery that the detectors fail to detect carbon monoxide gas. The recalled units of the detectors bear the date codes 4091 and 4092, which should be printed on the lower left-hand corner of the products label. No injuries associated to the defective detectors have been reported.
Kidde Recalls Disposable Plastic Fire Extinguishers (12 Feb., 2015) Kidde recalls Disposable Plastic Fire Extinguishers due to a faulty valve component, which can cause the extinguishers to not fully discharge when used. The recall encompasses 31 models of Kidde disposable fire extinguishers. The recalled extinguishers can be identified by the model number, which will be listed on the products nameplate. There have been 11 reports of the extinguishers failing to properly function, but not injuries have been reported thus far.
SRAM Recalls Zipp 88 Bicycle Wheel Hubs (12 Feb., 2015) SRAM has recalled Zipp 88 Bicycle Wheel Hubs due to increase risk of crash caused by the hub flange ring on the front hub. Only the first version of the 88 hub is affected by this recall. Thus far there have been two reports of the front wheel collapsing, both of which resulted in stitches, bruises and lacerations. One of the reported victims did suffer a concussion.
Jackco Transnational Recalls ZETA Battery Pack (12 Feb., 2015) Jackco Transnational recalls ZETA Battery Pack due to fire hazards created by the potential over heating of the device. The model affected by this recall is Model Number ZT5O42O, which can be found printed on the backside of the battery pack and below the product label is another label containing a date code of XM2O14O7XXXXXX. The company has received 487 reports of the battery packs failing, two of which resulted in property damage by fire.
