Weekly Wrap-up of Recalls 02/01/15/02/07/15

Most of this week’s recalls include product recalls for various increase risks posed to users/consumers. It is important to remain attentive in the working condition and potential safety issues, which can arise with products you purchase. If you or a loved one have been injured as a result of a defective product, contaminated food or suffered injury to the negligence of a manufacturer you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries.

Gibbs Sports Amphibians Recalls Quadski Amphibious Vehicles (3 Feb., 2015) Gibbs Sports Amphibians recalls Quadski Amphibious Vehicles due to discovery that the handle bars can fail while the vehicles are in motion, creating an increased risk of injury. The failure of the handlebars can lead to inability to steering and potentially brake. Although no reports of injuries have been reported consumers are encouraged to discontinue use of the recalled vehicles, which can be identified by HIN numbers printed on a plate located on the right rear corner of the vehicles.

Performance Packaging Recalls Children’s Food Pouch (3 Feb., 2015) Performance Packaging recalls Children’s Food Pouch due to a potential choking hazard posed by the pouch’s topper tube possibly detaching from the round base.  Thus far there have been four reports of breaks around the round base of the toppers. No injuries associated with the recalled product have been reported.  The recalled pouch can be identified by a “SipP” logo and smiley face embossed on the circular base.

Family Dollar Stores Recall Tough Treadz Carrier Toy (4 Feb., 2015) Family Dollar Stores recall Tough Treadz Carrier after discovery that the die-cast metal cars can have sharp edges, which pose potential laceration risks. No injuries have been reported thus fat, but consumers are advised to discontinue use immediately of the recalled cars, which can be identified by UPC code and a packaging labeling “Tough Treadz Auto Carrier” with “SKU 1004247” printed in red in the upper right hand corner.

Life Smart Recalls Lifepro Brand Portable Mini Space Heaters (4 Feb., 2015) Life Smart recalls Lifepro Brand Portable Mini Space Heaters due to discovery that the screws that attach the back plate to the heater are too short and do not properly attach the back plate, posing an increased risk of electrical shock. The recalled heaters can be identified by the model name and wattage, which are printed on the label on the back of each heater.

Lazy One Recalls Children’s Pajamas and Robes (4 Feb., 2015) Lazy One recalls Children’s Pajamas and Robes due to failure to meet federal flammability standards for children’s sleepwear. No reported injuries are associated with this particular recall however consumers are encouraged to immediately discontinue use of the recalled products, which can be identified by “Lazy One” and “Made in China” printed on the garments’ inside neck label.

Sea Gull Lighting Recalls Chandeliers (5 Feb., 2015) Sea Gull Lighting recalls after discovery that the mount can break resulting in potential for the chandelier to fall and increase injuries to those in close proximity. There have been four repo9rts of the subject chandeliers falling, however no injuries associated with the recalled chandeliers have been reported. The chandeliers subject to this recall can be identified by Collection, product number and the provided photographs.

LS Import Recalls Airplane and Butterfly Push Toys (5 Feb., 2015) LS Import recalls Airplane and Butterfly Push Toys after discovering the wheels on the subject toys can detach and pose a possible choking hazard to young children. Although no injuries have been reported associated with the push toys consumers are advised to discontinue use of the toys, which were available for purchase from May 2014 through July 2014 in Houston, Texas at LS Import stores.

Mima Recalls 3-In-1 High Chairs (5 Feb., 2015) Mima recalls 3-In-1 High Chairs due to the fact that the seat can potentially loosen and/or dislodge, resulting in increased risk for the child seated in it to seat and child to fall. Although no injuries have been reported, there have been 14 reports of the chair seat loosening. Consumers are encouraged to stop using the chairs immediately and contact the company for a replacement at no extra charge. The chairs can be identified by a serial number located on a sticker on the inside of one of the two feet at the base of the high chair. .

Food and Drug Administration- Recalls/Safety Alerts

The Spice Mill Recalls Ground Cumin and Cajun Seasoning Products (2 Feb., 2015) The Spice Mill voluntarily recalls Ground Cumin and Cajun Seasoning  due to possible undeclared allergen, more specifically peanut protein. The product was available for purchase at local markets in CT and through The Spice Mill’s website as well as retailers in Manchester, CT. The recalled items can be identified by UPC number, size, best-by-date and lot number.

Middle East Bakery, Inc. Expands Recall of Joseph’s Bread Products and Trader Joe’s Pita Products (2 Feb., 2015) Middle East Bakery, Inc. expands recall of Joseph’s Bread Products and Trader Joe’s Pita Products due to possible undeclared soy. The recalled products were distributed to markets in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut. The stores that were distributed to include Market Basket, Stop & Shop , Shaw’s Hannaford as well as Big Y. The recalled products can be identified by UPC number and see-by-date.

Christ Kitchen Recalls Blameless Blondies Cookie Bar (3 Feb., 2015) Christ Kitchen recalls Blameless Blondies Cookie Bar due to potential undeclared milk. No illnesses have been reported associated with the recall, but the products label does not indicate the presence of milk, which increases the risk of ingestion by those allergic or sensitive to milk. The recalled product can be identified by the UPC 8 53143 00246 8 and has no best-by-date listed.

The Jefferson Street Bakery Recalls “Amana Dinner Rolls” (3 Feb., 2015) The Jefferson Street Bakery recalls “Amana Dinner Rolls” due to potential undeclared allergen, milk. The recall includes lot number “834J364” and the recalled rolls were distributed to retail stores in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, Minnesota and South Dakota. Thus far no illnesses have been reported associated with this particular recall.

Whole Foods Market Recalls Raw Macadamia Nuts in Select States (3 Feb., 2015) Whole Foods Market Recalls Raw Macadamia Nuts in AL, GA, MS, NC, SC and TN due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The products subject to recall are labeled “Whole Foods Market Macadamia Nuts”,  had the best-by-dates of 4/22/15, 5/4/15, and 5/6/15. They also bear the UPC code 7-23055-21415-3.

J.J. Fuds, Inc. Expands Recall of Pet Food (4 Feb., 2014) J.J. Fuds, Inc. expands recall of Pet Food due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products can be identified by size, and UPC number.

Bimbo Bakeries voluntarily recall Thomas’’, Sara Lee and Jewel Bagels (5 Feb., 2015) Bimbo Bakeries Recall Thomas’’, Sara Lee and Jewel Bagels due to an undeclared peanuts and almonds. The recalled products can be identified by UPC code and best buy dates on the plastic tab closure.

See’s Candies, Inc. Recalls Classic Red Heart with Assorted Chocolates (6 Feb., 2015) See’s Candies, Inc. recalls Classic Red Heart with Assorted Chocolates due to an undeclared allergen, tree nuts. The recall includes all 8 oz. Classic Red Hearts with Assorted Chocolates with the bar code of 737666091201 and bearing the stamp date L.A.N. 048/15.

Korean Food Co. Recalls Soybean Sprout (6 Feb. 2015) Korean Food Co. Recalls Soybean Sprout due to possible contamination Listeria monocytogenes. The soybean sprouts were distributed to KO-MART as well as to H-MART in Texas.

Recalls 29 Pounds of Pork Bratwurst due to misbranding, which was the result of a printing error of the listed ingredients. The Fresh Beer Bratwurst subject to the recall was produced on April 9, 2014 and sold in 16-oz. vacuum sealed roll stock packages.
