Two Killed in Deadly Orlando Collision

A car accident on State Road 408 killed two on the morning of August 30, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol say the driver of a black Hyundai Elantra crossed over into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Toyota Corolla. Shortly after the collision, the Hyundai burst into flames. Both drivers died at the scene.

A third vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, struck a guardrail in an attempt to avoid the wreckage. The highway sustained significant damage after fuel spilled on the road and ignited. The accident remains under investigation. Authorities are unsure how far the Hyundai was traveling in the wrong direction prior to the collision. Investigators were unable to find footage from cameras on the expressway. They are using information from the Hyundai’s E-Pass transponder to determine exactly where the Hyundai entered the Toll way.
