Two Crib Recalls

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued two separate recalls today for two crib related items due to product defects.

The first is the Simmons Kids Crib Mattress which is undersized and leaves a gap between the mattress and the crib.  This may allow a baby to fall into the gap and possibly get trapped.  The mattresses were sold by Pottery Barn Kids and other baby furniture stores between July 2006 and May 2008.  For a full list of model numbers, consumers should go to the CPSC website.  If you have one of the defective mattresses, you should stop using it immediately and call Simmons Kids at 800-810-8611 for a free replacement.

The other recall is the Bassettbaby Crib sold at Babies R Us under the name of Wendy Bellissimo Hidden Hills Collection Cribs from November 2007 through February 2008.  The crib is being recalled because some of the cribs have spindles on the sides that are too far apart and may cause a child to become entrapped.  The model number for this defective crib is 5446-0521.  If you have one of these cribs, you should top using it immediately and call Bassettbaby at 866-618-5446.  They will inspect your crib and replace it if it does not meet the safety standard.
