Revel Shuts Down Its Electric Moped Service in NYC Following Two Deadly Crashes

Revel
The popular moped ride-sharing service, Revel, announced that it will be suspending operations in New York City following a series of crashes- including two that were deadly.

The most recent Revel moped death occurred on Tuesday morning after a 32-year-old male victim crashed his Revel moped into a center median on Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens. The man suffered significant head trauma, and after being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced dead.

The fatal crash comes just ten days after a CBS 2 News Report and NYC resident died as a passenger on a Revel moped.  The female victim was riding on the back of the Revel moped when the operator suddenly lost control of it, and she was thrown to the ground.

NYC authorities have issued statements supporting the decision to suspend operations of Revel. These mopeds have become a popular means of transportation for residents and visitors to the city. Since 2018, Revel has seen ridership increase to over 300,000 people.

Revel has been hit with multiple lawsuits since 2018. Many of these legal claims involve injuries due to faulty brakes and other mechanical malfunctions, while others involve driver negligence.  Revel electric mopeds are still operating and available for rental in designated areas of Miami, FL.

Single vehicle crashes are common with Revel mopeds, scooters and e-scooters.  These type crashes can be the result of a dangerous road hazard, malfunction of the scooter or moped, or driver / operator error, which has been the case with all of Revel’s ongoing lawsuits.
