Orlando Mayor’s Son Involved in Car-Bus Accident

According to the Orlando Sentinel Tyler Crotty, son of Orlando Mayor’s Rich Crotty, was in an auto accident yesterday involving a Lynx bus and another vehicle.  The crash resulted in serious injuries to a 9-year-old girl.

Crotty, age 17, was driving in his red Hyundai yesterday on rain-slicked streets which may be why he was unable to maintain control of his vehicle.  Crotty’s vehicle clipped a Lynx bus traveling northbound on Daetwyler Drive, then struck the passenger side of a 2003 Honda van that was in back of the bus.  The nine-year-old girl was riding in the passenger seat.

Crotty had two passengers who were his cousins, ages 22 and 18. The driver of the Honda van was the 38 year-old mother of the young girl. Everyone involved in the accident was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where everyone was treated and released except the young girl.  She was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in serious condition.

Although unopened beer bottles were found in the vehicle, Orlando Police Department did not believe that alcohol had anything to do with the accident.  Young Crotty was, however, ticketed for careless driving.

Tyler Crotty’s fifteen minutes of fame came back when he was only 12 years old.  You may remember him as the young boy who was videotaped yawning and checking his watch as President Bush spoke at the Orange County Convention Center back in 2004.  The was played many times on national television and the young Crotty even made an appearance on the David Letterman show.
