According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, an outdoor wood burning fireplace is under a recall after 14 reports of the chimney’s bronze finish catching on fire. According to the agency, the freestanding Garden Treasures Living steel outdoor fireplace with a bronze-finish chimney sold at Lowe’s.
Sunjoy Industries Group Limited is recalling 20,000 fireplace units in United States and about 400 in Canada. The fire hazard comes from the decorative bronze powder coat finish on the chimney which ignites during use. The fireplace contains other decorative items including slate.
The wood burning fireplace stands at approximately 57 inches tall, is 24 inches deep and 35 inches wide. The front has glass doors and a tile back inside. Its item number is 0027705 and model number L-0F082PST-3, both are printed on the front page of the product manual.
The Garden Treasures Living recalled product was sold exclusively at Lowes from March 1, 2010 through November 15, 2010. Its retail price was at around $300.
The company reported several reports of fires and one report of melted house siding. The company has asked that consumers contact them for free replacement chimney and chimney cap.
