Ford motor Company (Ford) is recalling vehicles due to a manufacturing defects resulting in the seatbacks being insufficient to meet the requirements set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, “Seating Systems”.
The affected vehicles include certain 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured August through September 2013, 2013-2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured between June of 2012 and August 2013 and 2013-2014 Ford C-Max vehicles manufactured between July 2012 and May 2013.
It was discovered that both the passenger and driver seatbacks assemblies may have been produced with sub-standard weld joints, which can lead to the seats loosening or leaning while driving and potentially pose an increased risk should the vehicle be involved in certain crashes.
In an attempt to remedy the defective seat systems Ford will be notifying owners of the effected vehicles and replacing the seatbacks at no additional cost to the consumer. The recall is anticipated to begin Mid May of 2014. Owners may contact Ford with inquires at 1-800-392-3673. The associated recall number for the seatback defect is 14C03.
Owners of the affected vehicles are encouraged to contact Ford and remain aware of the defect and measures that will be taken to fix the safety issue.
