Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014 Ford F-150 truck, which were manufactured May 26, 2014 through June 19, 2014. The recalled vehicles were equipped with Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS), which it has been discovered may have been installed incorrectly.
If incorrectly installed the EPAS gear motor position magnet can cause a total loss of steering control. The recall is expected to begin on July 7, 2014 and Ford dealers will be replacing the EPAS steering gear, at no additional cost to owners. Because of the possible loss of control associated with the trucks, the company advises consumers not to drive their vehicles until they have been remedied. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673 with any additional questions and/or concerns.
Thousands of vehicles are recalled each year for various reasons: defective design, defective parts, and incorrect installation. Regardless of why a vehicle is recalled there is an increased risk posed by whatever defect has been discovered and owners are encouraged to remain current and aware of their vehicle’s condition. Defects not caught early enough can lead to serious injuries and deaths.
