Ford Motor Company issued two new recall notices, involving the 2020 Ford Mustang and the Ford Transit Connect. Both recalls affect the safety of passengers traveling in these two Ford models.
The recall for the Ford Transit Connect passenger van deals with seat belt safety for frontside passengers. The front passenger seat belt pretensioners, the device designed to pull a seat belt tight in an accident, may not properly deploy when the vehicle is involved in a crash.
Vehicles that are affected by the Ford Transit Connect recall were manufactured at the Valencia, California, Ford plant between July 17-31, 2016. If you or someone you know owns a Transit Connect that was manufactured during this time, contact your local Ford dealership. They are required to inspect the vehicle and will replace any assembly that is a part of the recall free of charge.
The recall for the 2020 Ford Mustang involves the vehicle’s front camera not being properly aligned. By the camera not working properly, the vehicle’s pre-collision assistance, lane-keeping, driver alert and adaptive cruise control can also fail, as well as the car’s high-beam control.
The failure of any of these alerts to work can result in the driver not being aware of a serious hazard approaching and result in a crash. The front camera is meant to alert drivers of how closely they are approaching other vehicles.
Models as new as the 2020 Ford Mustang come with safety features that force the car to automatically slow down or come to a stop to avoid an accident. Similarly, with the lane-keeping system, if the driver falls asleep or is distracted at the wheel, the vehicle will steer back into the correct lane. If the driver is relying on these safety features, and they fail, the results can be deadly.
The Ford Mustang recall involves models manufactured at the Flat Rock, Michigan plant. Consumers can take their vehicles into their local dealership for their cameras to be realigned. If you have a vehicle that is affected by either of these recalls, it is important that you take the vehicle in to be serviced as soon as possible.
