According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the agency and Matilda Jane LLC of Fort Wayne, Indiana have agreed to recall a girl’s Chelsea dress due to a choking hazard. Matilda Jane imported the Chelsea dress from China. According to reports, the buttons on the dress can come off, posing a choking hazard.
The company received one report but no injuries. The Chelsea dress sold in home trunk shows and online from February 1 through February 25, 2011. Consumers possessing the dress are asked to return it for repair or refund through Matilda Jane LLC.
The Chelsea dress is a girl’s sleeveless sundress in sizes 2,4 and 6, according to the CPSC. The top of the dress is white and bottom is printed with a green and yellow floral design. The dress features a multi-colored floral border at hem.
Matilda Jane reports about 1,500 dresses were sold and affected by this product recall. The CPSCP is asking consumers to come forward with incident or injury reports directly related to this product recall or a different hazard with the affected sundress.
According to the Children’s National Medical Center, choking or airway obstructions have a higher death rate in children than other type of injuries. Small items such as toys, balls, marbles or buttons are easy to swallow, posing a serious risk of injury. The study by the Children’s National Medical Center found that the average age of children hospitalized for airway obstruction was 3.5 years old.
