This past week’s recalls consist of both foods recalled due to contamination and defective products, both which potentially pose risks to consumers.
San Pedro Manufacturing Recalls Mattresses and Foundations (14 April, 2015) San Pedro Manufacturing recalls Mattresses and Foundations due to failure to meet federal open flame standards. The subject products were available for purchase in twin, full, queen and king sizes and a variety of fabrics. The recalled products can be identified by “San Pedro Manufacturing Company, 1041 La Grange Blvd, Atlanta, Georgia 30336” sewn on a tag, which can be found at the foot of the mattress. Although no injuries or incidents involving the products have been reported consumers are encouraged to contact the company and arrange for pickup and rebuilding.
Waterloo Industries Recalls Husky Vertical Bike Hooks (15 April, 2015) Waterloo Industries recalls Husky Vertical Bike Hooks due to a defect which can potentially result in the hooks unexpectedly detaching, allowing the bike to fall. The hooks were sold exclusively at Home Depot stores and can be identified by the word “Husky” printed on the lower left corner, although there are no markings on the hook itself. Thus far there have been 22 reports of bikes falling from the mounted Trackwall, 12 of which resulted in property damage.
OWT Industries Recalls Electric Blower Vacuums (16 April, 2015) OWT Industries recalls Electric Blower Vacuums due to discovery that the vacuums can overheat and potentially cause fire or burn hazards. The vacuums were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide in both green and black. The vacuums can be further identified by “Expert Gardener” and/or “Blower Vac 2 Speed Quiet 150 MPH Powerful 220 MPH” printed on the vacuum’s side housing and black plastic blower tube. There have been 16 reports of the recalled vacuums sparking, smoking or burning.
Homelite Recalls Electric Vacuums (16 April, 2015) Homelite recalls Electric Vacuums due to potential fire risks posed by the vacuums overheating. The recalled vacuums were available for purchase at Home Depot and Direct Tool Factory Outlet stores nationwide in both red and black. The recalled vacuums can be identified by the marking “Homelite BlowerVac 2 Speed Powerful 220 MPH” , which can be found on the plastic blower tube and side housing. There have been 1,369 reports of the vacuums sparking, smoking and burning, including one reported injury associated with such hazard.
Goochie Goo Garbs Recalls Children’s Sensory Blankets (16 April, 2015) Goochie Goo Garbs recalls Children’s Sensory Blankets due to a laceration hazard caused by the blanket’s ribbon tags. The recalled blankets can be identified by a ribbon tag on one side marked with the words “Goochie Goo Garbs” and polka-dot ribbon tags attached to the side of the blanket. Only blankets with polka-dotted ribbon tags are subject to this recall. Thus far there has been a report of a child being scratched by a wire exposed from the ribbon tagging.
Civia Cycles Recalls Hyland Bicycles and Aluminum Civia Fenders (16 April, 2015) Civia Cycles recalls Hyland Bicycles and Aluminum Civia Fenders due to a discovered defect resulting in the fender mounting bracket to break and/or bend increasing the risk for a rider to fall. and/or crash. The recall includes all Civia fenders both sold with bicycles and after market fenders. The Civia logo can be found on the fenders for identification of the recalled product. There has been a report of a consumer suffering a cervical spine injury and nerve damage as a result of a bracket breaking associated with this recall. Consumers are encouraged to immediately stop riding bicycles with the recalled fenders.
Gena Accessories Recalls Women’s Scarves (16 April, 2015) Gena Accessories recalls Women’s Scarves due to failure to meet federal flammability standards. The recalled scarves were sold in specialty boutiques in New York City and online at various websites. Although no accidents have been reported involving the recalled scarves consumers are encouraged to immediately stop wearing the scarves and contact the company for a full refund.

Prolainat Recalls Trader Joe’s A Dozen Sweet Bites (15 April, 2015) Prolainat Recalls Trader Joe’s A Dozen Sweet Bites due to an undeclared allergen, coconut. The recalled product was produced between January of 2011 and February of 2015 and distributed nationwide to Trader Joe stores. The product can be identified by the UPC code #00967679 and was available in 9.16 oz boxes.
OriGen Biomedical Recalls OriGen VV13F Reinforced Dual Lumen ECMO Catheters (15 April, 2015) OriGen Biomedical recalls OriGen VV13F Reinforced Dual Lumen ECMO Catheters due to a discovered defect. It has been discovered that there can separation of clear extension tube from the hub that is inserted, which has the potential to result in intervention needed to prevent permanent impairment/damage. Consumers are encouraged to return the product if they have a catheter from lot 51 VV13F.

Recalls Cleveland Crops Chili Cheezy Kale Chips (16 April, 2015) Solutions at Work, Inc. recalls Cleveland Crops Chili Cheezy Kale Chips due to an undeclared allergen, more specifically raw cashews. The recalled product was distributed to local stores in Cleveland, Ohio between 12/1/14 and 3/30/15 and bear the UPC code 58736 00504.
Schnucks Recalls Chef’s Express California Pasta Salad (16 April, 2015) Schnucks recalls Chef’s Express California Pasta Salad due to possible contamination with Salmonella. The product was distributed at Schnucks stores in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa. No illnesses or adverse affects have been reported associated with this recall.
Conway Import Co., Inc. Recalls Dressings (17 April, 2015) Conway Import Co., Inc. recalls both its Organic sesame Ginger Dressing and Citrus Vinaigrette Dressing due to possible Salmonella contamination. The dressings were available for purchase in Illinois, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Texas by direct deliveries. Thus far there have been no reported illnesses or adverse reactions related to this recall.

The recalled packaged nuts were available for purchase in AR, AZ, CA, CO, HI, KS, LA, NM, NV, OK, TX, and UT Whole Foods Market Stores. The recalled nuts can be identified by the label as “Whole Foods Market Raw Macadamia Nuts” with the UPC code 7695862059-1.

Leader Slaughterhouse, LLC Recalls Veal Carcasses (13 April, 2015) Leader Slaughterhouse, LLC recalls Veal Carcasses due to failure to obtain full inspection. The recall involves approximately 1,800 pounds of veal carcasses produced on April 10, 2015. The subject veal was available in 6 individual 300 pound veal carcasses, which were cut into quarters. Thus far there have been no reported illnesses or adverse affects related to this recall.
Beech-Nut Nutrition Recalls Baby Food (14 April, 2015) Beech-Nut Nutrition recalls Baby Food due to potential contamination with a foreign matter. The subject baby food, which was shipped to retail stores nationwide, was produced on December 12, 2014 in 4 ounce glass jars marked as “Stage 2 Beech-Nut CLASSICS sweet potato & chicken” bearing the establishment number “P-68A” . The recalled baby food expires December of 2016. There has been a report of an oral injury related to this recalled product.
B & R Meat Processing, Inc. Recalls Products (15 April, 2015) B & R Meat Processing, Inc. recalls Products due to nitrite levels in excess of regulatory limits. The recall includes: 1-2 lb cryovac packages of cured ham with production dates of 7/1/14 to 7/25/14; 1-15 lb cryovac packages of cured bacon with production dates of 7/1/14 to 10/7/14; 1 lb cryovac packages of cured jowls with production dates of 7/1/14 to 7/25/14. Each of the recalled items bears the establishment code “Est.46910”.
