According to KSBW, Fresh Express is voluntarily recalling 2,939 cases of bagged, pre-washed and ready to eat spinach after salmonella was detected in a random sample test. According to the company, the recall will be conducted out of an abundance of caution and so far no reports of illnesses have been reported.
Fresh Express is not recalling any of its other products. The affected products comes in 8-ounce bags with product codes starting with H081 and H082, UPC code on the bags of spinach is 7127913204 and expiration date April 6 and 7.
The company had said that consumers can located the product code and use-by-date in the upper right hand corner of the package. The UPC is located in the lower left on the back of the package.
Fresh Express is advising consumers to immediately stop using its bagged spinach and discard the bags. Consumers will need to contact their retailers for a full refund.
Bags of salmonella contaminated spinach were distributed to grocery stores in Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Ohio and Main. Some stores received the product in New Jersey, Virginia, Delaware, Vermont, New Hampshire, West Virginia and Washington, DC.
