Ford Motor Company has launched a recall of steering gears installed on model year 2011-2012 Explorers, which were service parts in September 2013 and January 2014. The gears that were installed may lock, preventing the driver from properly steering the vehicle. The defective steering components cause an increased chance of crash.

“It is important to note that the vehicles being recalled are only those that may have received a suspect replacement steering gear after September 1, 2013,” the Ford statement said. The recalled parts are estimated to only affect 300 units of the parts. Ford will notify owners and dealers will be replacing the effected aspect of the steering gears at no additional cost to consumers.

The recall number is for this particular recall is 13S14. The expected date for the plan to be underway by Ford to remedy this defect was January 24th, 2014. Consumers may also inquire further by calling Ford as 1-800-392-3673.

Drive cautiously and verify that your vehicle has not been included in a recent recall.
