According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, a Sunbeam Products wine bottler opener is under voluntary recall after the company received dozens of consumer injury reports. Sunbeam Products Inc. recalled 159,000 wine bottle openers sold through QVC after consumers claimed injuries such as cuts on their hands.
The CPSC announced twenty two people experienced cuts on their hands when the wine bottles broke while using Sunbeam‘s Skybar Air Pump Bottle Opener. Sunbeam reports that it received fifty two injury reports of wine bottles breaking while the bottle opener was in use.
The bottle opener was sold on QVC from November 2010 and December 2010 for between $30 and $50. The four piece set came in gray, blue, red or silver/black with a black storage box. The Skybar Air Pump Bottle Opener’s model number NBSKWA2600 is printed on the bottle opener’s bottom. The side of the bottle opener has words “skybar” printed on it.
The agency warns that consumers should stop using this defective product and return it to QVC for a full refund. Consumers who did not purchase this item through QVC are asked to contact Sunbeam directly.
