According to Reuters, Hoover is voluntarily recalling the Hoover WindTunnel Bagless Canister Vacuum model S3755 for a fire hazard. The Consumer Safety Protection Commission issued a warning to consumers that the vacuum may expose them to potential fire and electrical shock.

The agency warns that even if the affected Hoover vacuum is disconnected from the wall it may still malfunction. Approximately 142,000 Hoover WindTunnel Bagless Canister Vacuums are affected by this product recall.

The recalled vacuums are silver and black, and were sold nationwide through retailers and online between March 2003 and December 2008. The company received sixty nine incidents, one resulted in fire and smoke damage, two results in carpet damage and one resulted in minor burn injury.

Hoover states that power cords between the power nozzle base and wand connected may experience a short circuit. In a case of a short circuit, the canister may melt and fire or shock may result. Unplugging the vacuum from the wall may help to stop damage. Affected Hoover vacuum models have the model number and serial number on the bottom of the vacuum. Hoover warns consumers to immediately stop using the defective vacuums. The company will replace the nozzle and hose through its repair centers.
