Andrew Schlichtemeier age 21 is being sued by the families of two of the four men that were killed in a motorcycle crash in August. While motorcycles are known to be dangerous and certain precautions should be taken when riding, in this case it probably wouldn’t have made much of a difference if the four men were in a car instead of on motorcycles. This case just goes to show that life is dangerous and riding a motorcycle isn’t any more dangerous than crossing a busy street when there are people like Schlichtemeier on the road.
The lawsuit is seeking an unspecified amount of financial compensation from the young man who has been accused of running his pickup head on into the 4 motorcycle riders who were on their way home from the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally.
Authorities report that Schlichtemeier was drunk when he swerved his pickup truck into oncoming traffic and struck the 4 motorcycles. He has pleaded not guilty to four counts of vehicular homicide and remains in jail until his trial date of December 7th or until someone pays his $200,000 bond. Drunk driving was the cause of these tragic deaths, not the fact that the men were on motorcycles, not that they were driving recklessly. They were four men on their way home to their families when a drunk driver took their lives. Dale Aspedon, Dennis Chaney, Steven Benscoter and Jay C. Bock were tragically killed on the highway and it had nothing to do with their choice of a dangerous method of transportation.
The personal injury lawyer and lawsuits represent the families of only two of the four victims.
