Lucky Country Aussie Style Soft Gourmet Licorice Black (All Natural) in 1.5 lb bags is being recalled from Florida, as well as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, and Washington State. It has been discovered the licorice has excessive amounts of lead.
The manufacturer of the candy, Lucky Country Inc. of Lincolnton, NC., has reported that California Department of Public Health and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) completed tests on the candy and discovered lead at a level which exceeded the amount allowed in candy by the FDA. (Who knew there was an allowed amount?)
The manufacturer also sells the candy in a 6 oz and 3 lb bag, and in a 1 pound tub. The FDA is recommending that anyone who has this candy throw it away or return it to the retailer to obtain a full refund.
