Violations Issued One Year Later in I-4 Pile Up

The Orlando Sentinel reports that the one year long investigation of a seventy car pile up results in 12 tickets for careless driving.  The incident occurred on January 8, 2008, on Interstate 4 in Polk County between County Road 557 and State Road 559.  Five people were killed in the incident.

The Florida Highway Patrol just concluded its investigation of more than a dozen crashes involved in the incident.  Smoke from a controlled fire by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission the day before made worse by a shift in the winds covered the roadway and made it extremely difficult to see.  The traffic citations were issued because the FHP investigation showed the drivers failed to drive their vehicles in a careful and prudent manner given the road conditions.
