One Killed and Four Injured in Florida Truck Accident

The Florida Highway Patrol shut down I-95 after a chemical truck accident on December 29, 2011, according to sources. The driver of the truck, 66-year-old Francis Trammell of Neptune Beach, died in the crash. The chemical truck that Trammell was driving ran into the back of a logging truck, according to Sgt. Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The logging truck initially lost control on the highway and overturned, spilling logs onto the road. A car wrecked into the logs and then was rear-ended by a mail truck. The driver of the chemical truck died and four others suffered injuries. The trucks caught fire after the collision. The FHP described the blaze as “intense.” Injured partied were flown to nearby hospitals.

Hazardous-materials crews responded to the accident as well. The chemical truck was carrying methyl bromide, an odorless gas that is flammable. The accident remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
