Summer Infant Baby Monitor Recall Due to Fire Hazard

According to CNN, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a second Summer Infant baby monitor product recall that involves specific models. The agency reports Summer Infant monitors with a “Summer” logo on the front, labeled Slim and Secure, and sold in either silver and white or pink and white have a fire hazard.

The affected baby monitors sold at Babies “R” Us between September 2009 and May 2010. According to the agency, the rechargeable batteries in the baby monitors can overheat and burst, posing a serious risk of burn injuries.

Summer Infant reported five complaints of ruptured batteries. Three of those reports caused minor property damage but so far, there are no reports of personal injury. Summer Infant urges parents to stop using affected baby monitors and to contact the company immediately for a replacement. This voluntary recall involves 58,000 Summer Infant monitors.
